Today, April 22, we hosted students from the gymnasium and School No. 11. We dedicated the meeting to Earth Day and also displayed a film related to environmental protection.
The meeting was held with the support of the “Women’s Fund.”
At the beginning of the meeting, we told the students about “Gavigudet” (We’re Suffocating) and the “Eco Center”; we introduced them to the problem of air pollution in Rustavi and its causes; we also showed additional photos and video materials to confirm that civil activism and struggle make sense to achieve the desired results. We also explained the negative effects that exposure to polluted air has on our health.
We told them about the activities carried out within the framework of the “Eco Center” and called on them to get involved in plastic and paper collection campaigns. For motivation, we introduced the goal of paper collection and told them that by doing this, they would contribute to the greening of the city. They have already brought several kilos of paper to our collection point.
The second part of the meeting was dedicated to a film screening. We chose the film “Erin Brockovich” for them, which tells the story of a single, unsuccessful woman whose life radically changes after she discovers that water is contaminated with a carcinogenic substance as a result of the irresponsible operation of a large company. It’s an interesting story about environmental activism and the fight for justice.
After the film, a discussion was held, and we discussed how much of a role one person’s conscious activity and dedication can play in solving a problem.
