Within the USAID Civil Society Engagement Program on 19 March, we hosted pupils from Marneuli Public School N2. We introduced them to activities of “Eco Centre” and “Gavigudet”, told them why the air in Rustavi is the most polluted and in this regard, what achievements and challenges we have got in the city.
In our office, pupils viewed photo-collage of the emissions from the production area and they saw in what condition the city was during the years.
After the introduction, we went on a tour of the industrial zone with the members of the meeting. For them, seeing this part of the city was interesting and impressive, because they had not seen an industrial area of this scale before and could not even imagine that almost 50 factories were functioning in Rustavi.
Pupils understood a problem of our city, asked many interesting questions about the enforcement of legislation and the sufficiency of fines.
As a result of the rearmament of large productions with the proper filtration system, the condition in the production area is relatively better, but there are still many issues, that are amendable.
We hope that after all factories, with a self-monitoring obligation run the system, the situation will be much better.
We are happy that the youth network, which are interested in our city’s problems has expanded and it went beyond the borders of our city.
