Since March 2023, Eco Centre has started a new project – “Promoting Women’s Engagement in Environmental Advocacy in Rustavi”.

The project is financially supported by “Women’s Fund in Georgia”.

The goal of the project is to promote women and girls to get involved in environmental advocacy by raising their awareness and enhancing their capacity. With this purpose, numerous interesting activities will be implemented within the 9 months period, including:

  • Training on project writing and fundraising, in order to strengthen local women’s organization;
  • Informational meeting about air pollution;
  • Attending public deliberation;
  • Training on green advocacy and civil activism;
  • Practical workshop on creating simple visual designs;
  • Two movie screenings about women environmental activists;
  • Publishing three informational materials about the activities of women environmentalists;
  • Informational tour in Dighomi Meadows;
  • Informational tour in Rustavi floodplain forest;
  • Opening and functioning a pulp-collecting point at the Eco Centre office;
  • Informational campaign for encouraging pulp collection;
  • A lecture-picnic about the importance of waste management and clean-up action in Rustavi floodplain forest;
  • Quizzes about waste management.

At the current stage, the number of women in Rustavi, aware of environmental issues, is not high. Part of them do not consider activism to be the best way to solve problems or they do not believe to have enough experience and knowledge for problem advocating or planning and organizing strategic campaigns. Part of those women, aware of problems, are lacking resources and allies. Therefore, it is crucial to enforce women and their ability in regard of environmental advocacy.

The target groups of the project are women and girls, with the main focus on women in Rustavi. However, women of Kvemo Kartli and other regions will also have the opportunity to participate in project activities.
