Today, on December 24th, we conducted a training for teachers, which was attended by teachers of various subjects and individuals interested in environmental issues from Rustavi and Akhali Samgori.

The training was held within the framework of the project ‘Strengthening the Network of Environmentalists in Kvemo Kartli Region’. The project is implemented with a grant from the Institute for War and Peace Reporting (IWPR), with support from the British government.

The training aimed to empower teachers and promote environmental awareness in schools.

During the training, we discussed issues such as the problem of air pollution in Rustavi, sources of air pollution; we also examined the impact of air pollution on human health and shared relevant data with the training participants. In addition, we introduced teachers how to check air quality by using the Atmospheric Air Quality Portal (air.gov.ge) and provided information about plants that help purify the air at home.

Additionally, we discussed the connection between Sustainable Development Goals and air pollution, climate change mitigation, and we also examined ways to reduce air pollution at an individual level.

The second session of the training was devoted to discussing one of the most significant environmental challenges – plastic pollution and its negative impacts on the environment and human health. We reviewed statistics on plastic waste generation worldwide and in Georgia.

In the final stage, we discussed methods and practices for becoming eco-friendly – how to reduce plastic waste and how to minimize the negative impact of plastic on the environment and our health.

Training participants were awarded certificates.

We are glad that we have gained many teacher friends in Rustavi and beyond, and created an opportunity for them to raise environmental awareness among their students through the two topics discussed in the training.
