Today, June 19, we hosted an informational tour in Rustavi’s floodplain forest. The tour was held with the support of the “Women’s Fund in Georgia” and in collaboration with Ana Trapaidze, a defender of Dighomi floodplains. Students and teachers from Tbilisi’s “Cervantes Gymnasium AIA-GESS” participated in the tour.

During the tour, we discussed the importance of preserving the floodplain forest and its ecosystem; we saw how diverse and beautiful the flora and fauna of our floodplain forest are, and we even identified several birds.

We visited various locations in the floodplain forest and saw how damaged it is by different types of waste accumulated over the years, especially in areas left open and unfenced. In contrast, we saw the opposite picture in the areas that are enclosed and maintained. In these places, we saw how the forest can regenerate itself without excessive human intervention.

We hope that we will gradually see more clearly the importance and benefits of the floodplain forest; we will realize what wealth our city has in the form of this forest and its biodiversity; we will appreciate this unique place and soon be able to use it wisely.
