Today, June 5th, we celebrated World Environment Day at “Eco Centre” with a film screening.

Our old and new eco-friends attended the event. Of course, we chose a thematic film. We watched “Taking Root: The Vision of Wangari Maathai,” which tells the story of Kenyan environmentalist Wangari Maathai, whose tree-planting initiative grew into a global environmental movement and made a significant contribution to emphasizing the importance of environmental conservation worldwide.

It was for her contributions to environmental and women’s rights that Maathai became a Nobel Prize laureate in 2004 and the first African woman to receive the Nobel Prize.

At the beginning of the meeting, we briefly shared with the participants the main details and stages of Maathai’s life that influenced her work. After watching the film, an interesting discussion took place, where the girls shared their impressions, and we talked about the importance of each person’s simple and purposeful actions in bringing about change on a global scale.

The Movie screening was held with the support of the Global Greengrants Fund.
