Today, on February 2, Eco clubs’ members of the 18th and 7th Public School attended the informational tour at the plastic recycling factory – “Polyvim” LLC. “Eco Centre” organized a tour with the support of the Open Society Georgia Foundation.

The representatives of the factory introduced pupils to the technological process of plastic recycling. They had an opportunity to see the working process on the spot – how the employees sort the plastic by hand so that in the machine the wrong type of plastic will not mix for further processing.

Besides, witnessing the material, obtained as a result of plastic recycling, which is afterward used in the production of coats, stuffed toys, pillows, etc., was quite effective and memorable for the tour participants.

Furthermore, during the tour, we introduced the negative consequences of plastic production and use to the pupils; we discussed that plastic’s entire life cycle has harmful effects on the environment and humans. We have listed all the damaging consequences the whole life cycle of plastic production may pose for human health. After reviewing plastic production and recycling statistics, we have concluded that plastic is one of the worst types of waste. With all of it, we emphasized that recycling is not our final goal and we should change our lifestyle in such a way as to avoid plastic products in our daily life as much as possible.

By seeing the process on the spot, once again, pupils were convinced that avoiding plastic from getting into the environment is very important; we would also like to point out that they donated 19, 5 kg plastic bottles, collected at school, to the factory.

We would like to thank the pupils and the teachers: Bela, Archil, and Keti, for their contribution to this useful work. We hope other schools in Rustavi would join them soon.
