In September, with a grant from the Institute of War and Peace Reporting (IWPR), supported by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), we launched a new six-month project – “Strengthening the Network of Environmentalists in Kvemo Kartli”.

The project aims to empower women activists, deepen ties between representatives of the civil sector and empower ethnic and religious minorities and promote their involvement in the fight for a healthy environment. To achieve this, the following activities will be implemented within the project:

  1. Advocacy and civil activism training;
  2. Informational meeting with Tazakendi residents;
  3. Media advocacy;
  4. Preparation of informational materials to raise awareness;
  5. 4 facilities will start sorting plastic and/or waste paper;
  6. Excursions to the waste recycling enterprise “Polyvim”;
  7. “Turn plastic into wood” competition;
  8. Training for teachers;
  9. Informational tour in the Dighomi Meadows.

As a result of the project:

–  The level of awareness of the population about a number of environmental issues, including the problem of air pollution and the importance of civil activism, will increase, which will contribute to the advocacy of this problem and the strengthening of civil society.

– The development of an inclusive society will be promoted and a regional network of people interested in environmental issues will be created. In addition, initiative/environmental groups consisting of ethnic/religious minorities and women leaders will be strengthened.

– The number of people involved in waste sorting and recycling will increase, which will help reduce the negative impact on the environment and develop eco-friendly habits.
